Undergrounding the Bilbao Metropolitan railway station in Urduliz will allow the improvement of the urban core of the town by eliminating the urban barrier caused by the railroad and the level crossing. The layout runs similarly to the currently existing railway, albeit buried at heights of up to nearly 6 metres. The result is a new path along 543 metres, including the new Urduliz station and two sections of cut & cover tunnel on each side of it. A solution of a semi-underground station has been chosen, built in the open but with its cover, at a sufficient height to ensure the removal of the level crossing, replacing the current gap that formed the railway of the Metro by a new free surface that will connect the two halves of the town of Urduliz.
